Challenge #11 – Something you collect.
Over the years I’ve collected different things.
When I was young, unicorns and stickers were my things. I still have them packed away in a tote that I haven’t opened in 20 years!
But these days, despite the fact that unicorns are cool again, I collect vintage glass bowls and dishes.
It started with this green polka dot bowl. It’s actually the #404 from the Pyrex New Dot pattern. One of the four polka dot nesting mixing bowls in the 4 piece set, circa 1968 or so. This set is a sought after one. I found this beauty at Goodwill for a mere $7.99. Score!!
The coolest part was that I didn’t know what I had at the time, it just looked cool. I took a Google search to find out what a treasure I had.
It was then that I learned about a whole of collectors out there.
And thus, my collection began.
I now have several complete sets at well as plenty to be completed. I’m careful to not spend too much. It’s only a dish after all.
I’ve bought and resold. In the beginning I would buy just about anything I found. After amassing a collection too big for my house, and realizing I just wasn’t a fan of every design, I carved it down. Now I only buy the ones I really like.
I branched out from Pyrex and added Hazel Atlas, Fire King and Federal.
My favorites are the clown glasses from Hazel Atlas (lower cabinet shelf, on the right) and the Friendship series from Pyrex.
That’s my collection!
What’s your favorite thing to collect?
